So i have an 010 b4000 the tag says i have 3.73 open diffs, i wanted to just swap in complete 4.56 fx4 axels(with diff and shafts up front as well) after reading up because i have the damned traction control and disc brakes thats prolly not gonna happen. Is my best option to just buy aftermarket limiteds and 4.56 gears and get my front and rear rebuilt? This lack of low end is irratating

I'm not familiar with the TC system, though I wouldn't expect anything beyond a dash light if you were to defeat the system somehow.

But certainly you can swap the gears and diff in your current axles no problem (and keep your TC).
I'm not sure if the TC would be affected negatively by a limited slip being in there or not... (Ford did away with L/S diffs for '10 models) If so, you might have to get a selectable rear locker such as the ARB.

Limited slip won't mess with traction control. Changing to an FX4 axle should not mess with traction control. Changing to a FACTORY 4.56 axle will be impossible since Ford never offered anything past 4.10.

Thought I read somewhere the fx4 level 2 had a 4.56 option?

Shop manual only shows ratios between 3.55 and 4.10 in the label decoder.

Unless it was a one year only thing and I'm just not picking the right year, it would seem they did not offer a 4.56 option.

I do recall seeing the 4.10 ratio being the standard on the Level II.

Unless you completely disable the traction control via a tuner, pull the abs pump fuse or other means a limited slip and traction control don't really mix that well. Just using the button on the dash won't cut it. At certain speed, usually 30mph the traction control will turn back on. A locker not so much issue being both rear axles will be turning the same speed. The problem is with a limited slip they won't be the same speed. The bias will still kick the traction control. I did this with my 05 explorer. When I did get it stuck the traction control burnt the limited slip clutches, over heated the rear rotors and eventually ruined a caliper. Not saying the brake problems wouldn't happen with an open diff but it was much worse with the limited slip, and had to replace the clutches on top of the brakes.
