I have a 96 2.3l 2wd and am wondering if I can change my stock 205/75R14 to 235/75R15? how badly would this affect my performance? Would this be murder for my clutch? I do have a misty river boat that I like to tow.

You should be fine... well you need to regear most likely but if you can pick up a rear with 4.10 gearing you should be fine.

if it was just DD it wouldnt be bad... i think you prolly have 3.73s in the axle now but if you are towing a boat i would recommend a 4.10 swap.

My credo
If you're not making mistakes, you're not learning.
It's driveable. I did almost that exact swap. 225/70R14 to 235/75R15. I'm trying to re-gear mine to 4.88 (3.73 currently). But then again, I tow alot of crap and don't drive that fast with it anymore.

You'll notice a decent dip in power, but it still didn't stop me from doing this: (180 Miles across the state mind you).

I just checked and my gear ratio is 3.45. My stock 14" tires are 25" diameter how much would be the diameter for 235/75r15 tires?

they run about 29.5 typically. actually the same for 30/9.50 tires. they all seem to like to round up to the nearest inch when they label tires. if you are concerned, then you could go 235/70x15 tires. a little wider and smaller in diameter.
my ranger had the 3.45 gears but i went to 31" tall tires with future plans to go to 32" tires. i did the re-gear and now cruise comfortably on the freeway in 5th gear even on moderate inclines.
you will notice a little less power , but your clutch should be fine. probably won't spend much time in 5th gear on the highway if you have lots of hills or strong winds where you live. if or when you decide to re-gear, there will be many options for you and i would also consider a locker.
good luck!
