Pull the hubs and clean them out good with gas or solvent, especially down deep inside. going together pour some red transmission fluid in it, pour the first one out into the second one, then pour that out into your recycle oil. Using your fingers check they're all turning well. Inside your right front drive shaft you have a u-joint, make sure it's greased and working freely.
Check inside your front differential for the oil level, that may well be a very un maintained area
Properly maintained and operated that drive will go a long ways and last a long time, and all you ever have to do is reach up there and push the button
I also just did front wheel bearings. I did use kerosene to clean out the hubs. They moved freely but I did notice a little wear on one of the hub notches. I also drained and refilled both differentials. The u joints seemed to very tight

I'm lost on this thread Scott, sorry but was slow to realize I'd already been here before'
Mine has a few glitches in it I had not expected to get when I let a cousin rebuild it,
Some shifts it's bad to grind a bit, but the one may be similar to yours is the reverse, when I go to hit reverse it wants to lock, or freeze, whatever it is
I usually push the clutch until it frees up and maybe again to get it on in.
Not sure what's wrong inside tho, I've just been using it as is

Have you got underneath from the driver side in front of the transfer case, and physically turned the front drive shaft?
It should, by simply twisting the shaft, move forward and engage the shaft in the front differential, and push it out into the wheels to engage the front drive
