Hey guys got a tricky situation on my 94 4x4 steering. Where the steering column comes through the firewall there is a piece of pipe or something protruding from the firewall. WELL as we all know these rangers are in love with mating with rust. Well rust ate that tubular piece to hell now everytime i turn the wheel it sounds like the wheel's about to fall off because that bushing and piece of pipe is shot. Does anyone know what the hell that would be called so i can find another one? Would it just be the entire steering column? Pm with answers or reply ill prolly get back quicker with pm b/c it emails me when i get one. So if you're up to the challenge let me know thanks.

Typically people use that because they wanna see something awesome, but for a really good final diagnosis people might need to see what you're talking about.
To me it sounds like yes your steering column. If you can find one in a pick-a-part that is still in pretty decent shape, I'd say just get that because hunting down a brand new one will probably be costly..time and money wise.

Here's what im talking about. See that grey bushing looking thing? That should be stationary but the housing rusted out now my steering makes all sorts of f*&%ed up noises and makes me think that my wheel bearing is goin bad. It might be the wheel bearing too but process of elimination makes me think it's just this steering column housing ordeal.

See the 4 bolts sticking out? remove those from the inside of the cab, then unbolt the steering via that bolt on the steering shaft. Remove the panels and drop the entire assembly from inside the cab, and replace.

i was just about to post that i figured out that it's the tail end of the steering column lol. Was hoping not but looks like it's a steering column swap. Anyone know where to get one online for a good price? Seems there's NONE in my town or any in the towns close to me. I'd be willing to pay for shipping and handeling just gotta find one b/c my truck is 5 spd with tilt and cruise so it might be tricky.

you can swap the cruise control wheel and electrical stuff over to a non cruise column without too much trouble, but youll definately want the tilt wheel and manual trans column. if you use www.car-part.com you might be able to find something?
