First thing You didnt take the time to see what sections THERANGERSTATION offers. This belongs in the V-6 forum. A mod will move it shortly.

Second, do you have a haines manual or any type of manual that offers troubleshooting advice? I would invest in one. If its not starting follow the trail one step at a time. You changed wires. Have you tested the coil? Does it have spark? Does it have fuel? Fuel flow? Have you changed the fuel filter? Have you checked you fuel pumps?

THe only thing required to make it turn is the starter basically. But to get the fuel to the cylinder and have the spark set off at the proper timing requires alot. Have you checked the timing belt/chain? I would take a timing light to it. Also I would take 30 bux to your auto parts store and invest in an OBD I test kit.

Last thing I can suggest, go read some fo the tech articles in the tech library. The fact that you posted an engine problem in the Ranger NEws Section, tells me that if you don't fix one major problem you'll never get your truck running. Attention to detail. Most likely its sumthing small that is preventing your truck from running.

Please don't think I'm being rude, but someone once told me the same thing. I learned alot from it.

first test battery for more than 10.2volts
check for spark
measure resistance on the plug wires (if over 7000 ohms per foot replace)
test primary and secondary on the coil
test for injector pulse
check for fuel pressure

could be just as sinple as the distributer guts not running up to par.

i had the same problem on my 86 it would crank and nothing so i changed both fuel pumps and nothing ..i found that if you take the plastic covers off on the shaft of the steering wheel you have a long plug on the bottom that is part of your ignition make sure its plugged in all the way mine was barely hanging on and that's why it wouldn't start.... save your self the frustration and money just check it out you never know...

Check inertia switch...passenger side near floorboard. Are the plug wires connected for the proper firing order. +1 on listen for fuel pumps. If you hear them then that eliminates the pumps being bad, and the inertia switch.

It fires when you disconnect the computer box on the passenger side panel and wont when you plug it back in.
