Hey Gents,
I have a 91 stx 4x4 with a 4.0 Here is the dea. Putting together all the pieces to do my .0 conversion. Well in the meanwhile my stock fuel pump is starting to show signs of dying. Before it goes I would like to just switch it out with a new unit. Since I was going to go with a v-8 here in the next few months...my question is what in tank pump are you guys running? I was going to order a 5.0 mustang pump but not really sure if their fuels systems are the same. For instance is the 91 ranger a return style system? could i order a performance pump for a 5.0 and it would work in my ranger tank? Help me out guys....duh, edumacates me!!LOL!

Are you staying EFI or going with a carb? If you are using EFI the stock system will support a mild V8. If you are using a carb there are a few things you can do. Put an adjustable return regulator at the end of your stock system and adjust it down, or just use the intank low pressure Ranger pump and a regulator, or use a machanical or electric pump and install an older Ranger fuel pickup from a truck that originally had a carb.

what pump to use

well sorry for not spelling everything out....Yes I am staying with fuel injection. Thats why I was wondering if a 5.0 pump would work in my ranger tank. And my combo isnt to radical but once i come across some big chamber heads I will 99.9% sure i will run a blower. SO I would like to only have to do the install 1 time. SO what intank performance pump do most people run? Thanks for your help.

I just put a 5.0 EFI with 5.0 HO injectors in our Ranger and we are using the same pump setup that the 2.9 had without any problems. The 88 Ranger has 2 pumps in it 1 in the tank and 1 in the frame rail i put a fuel pressure gauge on it and it holds at 40 psi.

A pump from an EFI 5.0 Mustang will work just fine. Since the other one is dying, just swap in the Mustang pump. Gotta feed the beast!

ps- when you swap it in, pull the bed off the truck and access the tank from the top. I hate rolling around on my back to replace a tank. Six T55's and 3 8mm bolts and off she'll come.
