What engine for a Lotus7/ Ratrod?

A 2.3 ecoboost would be a great option. I would assume it would be easy to find a used one in the junk yard with how common they are. could buy a whole copart mustang or just the engine and get a control pack from ford.

A Focus RS 2.3 in the Lotus chassis would be amazing.

Go crazy with it. How about an inline 6 like the 300 out of a old F100 then turbo it. Even dual carbs off the side would be pretty cool looking too. Those things were bulletproof haha.

do you want to make power or having something unique?

if you want to make power, go with an LS

if you want to race and are concerned about weight i'd go with any number of turboed 4 cylinders

for something unique i might think about supercharged 3800

A vendor at Carlisle was offering an aluminum cross flow head for 200 and 250 inline sixes that looked cool, sounded mean through dual exhaust, and was claimed to make good power. 200's were used through 1983, 250's through 1980. 250's all used the smallV8 bell housing pattern, 200's used a real small diameter bell until 81 when they made it bigger to have room for a C5's lockup convertor- I think a V8 bell housing could be tweaked to bolt up. 300's were great but they were also heavy.

Straight six is probably the best for a show car... and they're cool. I'd probably lean toward a less computerized engine too. I6 is in the lead I think.

The ford Barra i6 would be a better choice than the 300 imo. Aussie ford equivalent of the 2jz-gte, for the most part.

An aluminum block LS is lighter than a Ford 5.0 or the old SHO V6 motors, so I'm confused about the weight comparison above.

Either way - I wouldn't reach for a V8 on the Lotus regardless. Something small and light.

Truck engines are far the easiest to find and have iron blocks.

I agree with 4cyl Ecoboost. Wrecked Mustang and you have the whole kit.

The L33 (I believe) was a 5.3 truck motor and had an aluminum block.

Still.. way less common.

In the early 60's Olds put turbo chargers on the aluminum 215 Buick V8, if you can find one it would be cool and different. GM gave up on trying to fix the oil leaks so they sold the design to Rover and they used it into the 2000's because it seems English cars are required by law to leak oil.
