Anyone know what this is for? I'm in the middle of a 88 ranger truck project so I don't want to get rid of it. But idk if it was off of my 92. I feel like it had something to do with the transfer case.

looks to be the thingy you would chain an engine hoist to.

or doohickey.

depends on your geographical location. ;)

edit: ok, so i just took a look at my 87 2.9l and i could've swore your part in the picture was somewhere on my engine but it must've been on my son's 88 2.0l. anywho, the offset bolt holes allow it to be bolted onto the engine along with the exhaust manifolds. the ones on mine are tubular inverted vees.

rangeron33s, you've always had that bracket and yet you've never really known what it was for or why it was there, but now rangeron33s, now you know what your bracket is for. It's for meat, and noodles, and liquid gol...

Sorry annoying commercial repeating way too much, they get stuck in your head. Guess that's the point, but I still don't want to try the product. About the bracket...

With the oblong hole on one end huh's idea sounds probable. Looks to be near perfect size for a chain or hook. It does look familiar and I've never worked on an 88 or 92 4x4, maybe I saw it in the pile of 2.9L parts I got with the 86 2wd. I'll poke around the pile tomorrow to see if I see any thng. I think I have seen something similar to it in the engine bay on my 99, I'll keep my eyes open as I'm putting it back together.

I also have a 5.0 block I pulled from a 80 something f250 2wd that I bought. It was complete when brought home but stripped it and scrapped the rest. That's my longest lasting project. I also had a 91 ranger 2wd at one time.

I have 2 '88's and I don't recognize that as being in either of them.

My guess is a hoist bracket as well.

My guess is it's a hoist bracket on the engine.
Kudos to Dylwad making his first post a post to help a fellow ranger owner!

And welcome to TRS!

I'm guessing that's what it is. Thanks everyone for the help!
