I smell like a damn parts cleaner. Today, I put in new inner and outer front wheel bearings, new spindle bearings, new upper and lower balljoints, new outer universals, and new front shocks.
While all of this was happening at my Uncle's shop, I noticed a little 4wd ranger parked out front he had for sale. Okay, so I noticed it the second I got within a 1/4 mile of the shop. I looked closer, and I'll be damned; it was a 95 regular cab shortbed, with an m50d, 1354 manual, manual hubs, manual windows, and a 2.3!!! I about shit my pants on the spot, since it has nothing other than minor surface rust anywhere, lots of new parts, and looked like a sweet little rig. It has 247K miles on it, but I drove it, and I could tell it was a well cared for 247k miles. Plus, it was only $1400. I went inside and told my Uncle that he had no idea what he had his hands on, and that it was definitely worth more than that. A few phone calls later, and two more friends showed up. One of whom is a member here, with a nice blue '01 4x4, the other was a non-ranger enthusiast who needed a little convincing. Well, I after some talk, and when my truck was done, we wheeled it out and wheeled the 95 in, and put it up in the air. She looks really good underneath, I couldn't find anything to fix right away! Not even any rust. Finally, he bought it. Then, at the bar, we got to talking. He was all "I hit some potholes on the way here, and it feels so solid" and I knew I had an enthusiast in the making. I can't wait to see his reaction to how this thing goes off-road.
