Does it sound reasonable that a shop would charge $450.00CAD to install a lock-right into my 8.8 rear end? And $700.00CAD for my D35 front? Just seems kinda high to me but I don't know about these sorts of things....

I thought about having them do it, but after seeing that price I think I'll take my chances and do it myself. I've wrenched my own cars/trucks off and on since I've been driving (15-16 yrs). I've always managed to get everything put back together and working-I've replaced alternator's, water pumps, brake pads (never shoes), brake calipers & lines, shocks, little bit of bodywork and other simple stuff lie oil changes/spark plugs etc, I'm sure I'm forgetting some things but you get the idea. What I'm trying to say is I know the difference between 5/8 and 9/16 but I've never opened up a diff before or even thought about tinkering inside there.

The website for the detroit locker says if you can do brakes you can do this so I think I should be allright, but I'm looking for some feedabck from other people who've done it...

Do it yourself, lunch box lockers are gravy to instal. Just be sure your 8.8 has an open carrier you cant put one in a limited slip carrier. You should have no problem doing them. Im not sure about the lock right, but my Aussie Locker came with great instructions.

The reason your front is so much to install is it does take quite a bit of time to tear apart a Dana 35 and put it back together. It will take about a day to tear into the front and put it back together.

You have to remove EVERYTHING to get the diff out of the Dana 35 TTB; even the driver side radius arm from the beam has to come off.

You don't need to remove the drivers radius arm, just grind the head of the pinch bolt into a D shape and it slides right past the radius arm. Mines been like that for 5 years now.

Edit: He's got an 07 that he's talking about. It takes probably 2 hours to get the front diff assembly out of the truck on that year. Dissabemble brakes/knuckles, remove cv shafts, and then there is 3 or 4 bolts that hold the diff assembly into the truck.

Nice one, thanks for the feedback gang! I'm glad to hear it doesn't sound like the shop I talked to was trying to gouge-they seemed like really good guys that know their $hit and I could myself using that shop quite a bit.....

Also glad to hear I should be able to tackle it myself, I sort of thought I could but it's good to hear from those who've been through it...

The Lock-Rights come with pretty dark pictures in the instructions, so it may be worth your while to find some online. I think there's a write up in the Tech Library for a 7.5 but everything's the same.

Once you get one, the other with be a piece of cake. :icon_thumby:

Those are unreasonable prices unless they are also supplying the parts. It's a very simple installation. If they are also supplying the parts then that is very fair.
