M5ODR-1 tranny. It makes a ticking noise around the bell housing area. I know it's low on fluid because most of it leaked out of my plugs and the bearing wine is getting bad. I'm going to put another quart or two in, but this ticking noise is starting to worry me. It rev's with the engine RPM, it gets quieter as I shift from 1 to 5. It's there if my clutch is in or out. I've looked at other threads but no one has been able to solve this problem (Or they haven't posted a solution).

How old is the starter? I know that with age, the appendix gear may not fully retract as it did when new, also I've heard stories about the springs in the clutch plate loosening up and making a chatter. Is the bell housing full of any debri?

I haven't looked in my bell housing lately, although I can't see why it would have dirt in it. The starter is about 3 months old.

If the sound is made while the engines' at an idle, it may be a good idea to take a good listen under the truck. See if you can pin point the sound. Cause realistically threre isnt that much in the bell housing that'll make a bunch of noise. Maybe take the starter out and take a peek.

I have been looking into it. It seems to get quieter when the motor warms up. There is a spot where my cat's connect to the Y piece that is missing a bolt. The noise may come out of that area.
