Thinking about new handgun purchase.

Finally got around to shooting the 5.7 on Christmas, very much reccomend.

Thing is super muzzle-blasty.. seemed like it extended 2' past the end of the barrel lol.

Still want a 1911 though -__-

I prefer 1911s. The grip is just right to me and I just like them better than my other pistols. If you plan to EDC it, get one with an aluminum frame. That makes a world of difference. My steel framed 1911 hurts my back, even with magazines on the opposite hip to help counterbalance the weight.

A word of caution though. 1911s can be picky with ammo. Hollow points, because of how big the hole in the nose is, can possibly not feed reliably. I've found Hornady rounds with the polymer insert in the hollow point fixes the issue. Critical Defense or Critical Duty run just fine. Plus, there is the Zombie round if you can find them. They have the green tip instead of red and tend to be cheaper than the Critical Defense rounds.

The grip&ergos of the 5.7 are pretty solid IMO. Much better than other plastic pistols. I'm not the biggest fan of where the mag release is.. can't easily get it with my thumb which is what I prefer.. but i can get at it decently with my middle finger.. just need a bit more time to get used to it.

Getting a 1911 is kinda just a dream at this point.. can't justify spending the dough at the moment.. but I would very much like to make it happen this year at least. For now.. I'll somewhat satiate my desire to purchase more pew-pews by buying +1 mag and extended Floorplate for my LCP lol. I love the hell out of that little thing.. just wish I could wrap my pinky around it.

I think it's mostly just to help with feeding issues, but I suspect it may also help increase the velocity a bit. Haven't looked into it.

I just run ball nose ammo in my .45, never had a jam.

The tips are supposed to help with expansion and prevent clogging of the hollow point orifice, which can prevent proper expansion. I imagine filling the hole would help with projectile speed and ballistics some but probably not a large amount. I think the feeding thing is just a side benefit. The nose profile of the Critical Defense and Critical Duty bullets are different than the standard hollow point round. Critical Defense is more like ball ammo and Critical Duty is more conical.
