Thanks for the heads up from Ballistic Fab, you're not the only one I've heard that from, think I'll be ordering my parts from places other than BF, and that is super cheap for those joints...are they the rebuildable kind?? They look like they are, wonder how well they will hold up to the elements and mud for a daily driver?? I have a 60 FF, but I'm selling that axle and my Iroks, I found another 60 that already has factory discs and I also found out that SF axles are cheaper and need less mods to the axle to fit 35 spline shafts, but I don't know if the 60 internals will hold up, debating to try that or go D70, but if I go 70 than I lose my advantage of having factory discs...Whats your take on that??

the joints arent rebuildable...but they are cheep enough that if i had to replace them every year then that would be fine with me

are you sticking with the 4.0? what size tire? i would say the 60 would be enough unless you are planning on some big torque from under the hood

ive seen people beat the hell out of 60's with no problems

Yeah I guess I should have mentioned my rig's drivtrain...I have a 5.0L HO from my mustang that I'll be running along with a twin turbo setup, somewhere between 450-550 hp, I currently have an E4OD, but have discovered its too long, so I'm searchin for a 4R70W to use. I'm working on modifying an explorer AWD case for low range capability, but will most likely end up with a D20 case, which I haven't found one yet. I've got my 44 front setup with 513s currently open, havent decided if I want to lock it or not, stock stype shafts that accept 760 joints, alloy outers with warn premium locks. My suspension will be custom long arms, BC 7" EB coils, 8" 63s out back with 6400s inverted and blocks if needed to level the truck out. Already have a 3" BL. I'm thinkin of runnin 38's or 40's with a 20" rim, haven't really decided at this point which size tire, but I will have the room and flex for either...

why the turbo's? wont be much use on the trails...ive down alot of turbo work, just cant see it being much use out there...going carb or fuel injection?

deffinantly stay away from the e4od, aint worth shaking a stick at

im far from the best person to give pointers but if it were me...

fuel injected 5.0, zf 5 speed
dana 20 case
dana 44 detroit and some good shafts
dana 60 spooled or detroit and some 35 spline shafts

that would be nice tough setup thats simple and tuff

i think if you do the turbo stuff your going to get into alot or durabilty issues unless you pour stupid amounts of money into it

thats my 2 cents but again im no expert :D

he wants the Turbo's for the "wow" factor....as well as the mud pits......

you'll have to see one day the way he likes to wheel' :icon_thumby:

he could prolly put HMMT axles under it, and still be able to break them....:D :icon_rofl: :D :icon_rofl:

I'm going EFI, and the turbos I'm using I should have full boost around 2500 rpm...I'm using twin IHI's from an 87 Tbird TC. Not lookin for hi rpm boost, I'm going for a torque monster, not a race motor, and its cheaper than a 347 stroker kit...I'm preferable to an auto for a trail truck, and E4OD are stupid strong, this is the same trans Ford put behind the powerstrokes and had no probs, the reason why I chose it. Now I need an E4OD for my dually, the small block E4OD I have wont bolt to my 7.3L:bawling: So I have to sell the E4OD I have, get one for a 7.3L, and also get a 4R70W for my ranger setup. And John is talkin about my over obsessive compulsive need to hit the skinny pedal:icon_thumby::yahoo:

twin IHI's wont get you anywhere near 500 hp on a 302...all they are gunna do is choke you way down...now it would probably spool at 2K like you said but they arent going to do much after that hell an ihi on my 2.3 was horrible...they wont get you anywhere near to what your wanting to do

you would probably be much better off with an hx35 or hx40 holset in a single setup...they are just about indestructible

as for the e40d i had a buddy with an f-150 and a windsor and had a hell of a time keeping one in it, if you drop some money into one they can be a good trans but stock they arent the best...the 4r70 is a good trans from what i hear but i dont have any exp. with them

My 5.0L was from my mustang and is not stock but not a whole lot done to it, I got close to 300hp in the motor, so I'm not needing or wanting much more....I got the two turbo's and an IC, I figure that would hold me over for now til I decide to go more...

the problem isnt the motor though what im saying is the turbo's are way under sized even for a stock 2.3...a decent breathing 5.0 is just going to flow way too much for them...i just really think youll be unhappy with the results with the ihi's
