My rough handling of the starter wire led to a short on the little wire from the fender. Smoke came out and the starter ran on and on until I took the cable off the battery. I let the smoke out of the wire. Another old car trouble fixed. I used about 4 feet of 10 awg MTW stranded and a couple of Yellow rings at either end. I had some loom that was from a head light harness. With a little bit of fitting and trying , I had repaired the harness and had it tied back into its original harness mount points. The 55$ starter seems none the worse for wear. I don't think this was the trouble. I caused this changing the starter. All is well. But, I wanted to work on the BMW
