Hey guy's here's what I'm wondering. My brother has a 93 ranger whit an 8.8open diff and 3.27 gears. He's wanting to put my old 3.73s gears in and swap in the limited slip out of a explorer rear end I have laying around. I need to know if this will work, will the L/S work with 28 spline axles or do I have to swap the whole read end.

The whole rear end needs to be swapped. The axles and carriers are not interchangable.

Will my ring and pinon from 28 spline 8.8 fit in a 31 spline 8.8?

I don't know if they'll fit or not, but if you have to swap a new rear end to get a limited slip you can just get one with 3.73s. It's the most common ratio.

Yes the ring and pinion are the same. It's a lot easier to swap in the sploder 8.8 than setting up gears.

As stated above, easier to swap whole rearend than setup the gears.....but if your lookin to swap just the chunk, you will have to use the Explorer axles too, as Explorers are 31 spline.

GOOD LUCK!

You cannot use 31 spline axles in a 28 spline housing, the bearings are bigger and the shafts are longer.
