So i have a system on my 86 ranger. Two kicker shallow mount woofers and two sets of cheap speakers. One pair is sony x plods which i got for free, and the others are some cheap brand. My woofers sound awesome but my speakers distort and sound like crap when loud. Could it be that my head unit is sending too much power to them or does it mean that they need more power. I know putting two different brands is no good. So why could cheap speakers distort? THNAKS!!!!!!!!! :headbang::headbang:

This is my head unit

shitty speakers and an underpowered head unit combo, mixing brands doesn't do anything unless you're sony or JL

Most of the time its all about how you set your eq on your stereo. And if your headunit has preset eq settings like rock, pop, rap etc, dont use those. try taking the bass down on the headunit, alot of people with cd players without sub outs turn the bass all the way up to get the sub to hit harder that can handle it, but that same bass is going to your speakers to that cant handle it. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.
