They were good enough with skinny bias ply tires that had crappy traction, and on vehicles with no power boost on the brakes (and that was on dry roads that weren't too hilly). Take life back to the 1950s and they are just peachy. Other than that..... not so much.

Watching you move the goalposts is hilarious.
So they're just as good until:
They get hot
They get wet
They are exposed to sand, etc

Any other major ones?
In my first post i said it was untill they get hot.

Wet i said that no brake system is immune to water.

Never said anything about sand...that was someone else.

You find a 3000lb car with 4 wheel drum brakes and I’ll bring my Cobra with 13” discs in the front and 11.?” rear discs.... let’s see who stops better from any speed.

Must be some computer glitch, the picture of the Cobra that has never been mentioned before isn't working.

My ‘94 Cobra... When I pulled her out of her grave 13 years ago with a bad clutch, broken motor mounts, not running.

Im sure people will be lining up to borrow me their vintage studebaker for that test.

If i could i would. Have to find one with similar size drums though.

There’s a reason you need to find a VINTAGE anything to meet those requirements... it’s ancient technology. It was good for it’s time, but there’s a better system now.

I'll never forget when a friend of mine asked me to drive another friend's 1970 Olds back out to the farm. There's a reason he warned me that it has front drums instead of discs (which all of the vehicles I'd had up to that point (three of them) had. If I remember correctly, his warning was to give myself extra room to stop (and not just because I was driving a 5,000 pound Olds '88, rather than my 3500 pound 1985 Ranger).

I think its funny how everyone seems to *think* they need the newest this or that or whatever...when that stuff was perfectly fine back then. Maybe people dont need to drive 65mph on a 2 lane 6inches off someones ass end bumper.

And maybe you should trade Rusty #2 in for a horse and buggy. Since older is better, that should be all you need.

I hate driving with my snooty gal friend when we’re going to pick up something she bought (the only time she’ll get in!). All the way there and back she’ll complain about what a redneck I am. But she does thank me when we’re done

Yup... We don’t need all this “new” technology...
Damn electric starters... bring back hand cranks!
LED lights... whatever happened to whale oil lanterns?
Cars :pissedoff:... Conestoga wagons pulled by a team of oxen were so much better!

Where exactly was the correct amount of technology that we should have stopped at?
