I know a few trannies like the miata and rx7 tranny need a lil fluid in the shifter hole. Does my 3.0L 5sp 2wd need fluid through the shifter?

Or, does it just seep down to the bottom?

This car is more of my beater car. Anyone recomend a certain fluid? How much fluid does this tranny take? I searched around and found nothing

5.6 pints...so thats what, almost 3 quarts?

the fluid level is checked by pulling the fill plug on the drivers side. the fluid should be at or just below the hole.

if you plan on keeping the truck for any length of time, you might want to pick up a chiltons repair manual for it. its chocked full of little tidbits like that (the kind that will drive you nuts trying to find a sure answer online). it also goes quite in depth on many major repair projects on the truck...very useful.
