My 97' Rangers stock shift knob keeps slipping off and i was planning on getting a new one. The problem that im having is that the stock shift knob just press fits over some splines and most aftermarket knobs are threaded. could i just run a dye over the splines and thread them? if so what thread size should i order? the one i want comes in 8x1.25, 10x1.25, 10x1.5, 12x1.25, and 12x1.5

I went to Wal-Mart and bought a shift knob off the shelf that pressed on and was held in place by three small screws...it's still on the shifter after several years of use...

Only thing I had to do was put a small layer of electrical tape (although that's not the best) around the heads of the screws because I managed to shred them enough to be uncomfortable on the finger tips...
