Hi all,
Got a '94 Ranger 4 banger & 5sp.
When I step on the brakes the rear brakes pulsate BAD. No pulsing brake pedal, just rear brakes pulsating. At first I thought it was the brake drums were out of round so I had the drums turned, and put new shoes, springs, etc. Still the exact same problem. I figured maybe the rear ABS, so I started cheap and put a new sensor on the differential. Still the same problem. I would gladly eliminate the rear ABS on my truck. Any quick, cheap way to do it? One that won't make the BRAKE light stay on. The ABS light I'll just pull the bulb, but the other brake light, I'd prefer if the brake light still operated.
Thanks in advance.

If you disconnect the RABS sensor do you still have the issue?

Did you get your brake issue identified?
How did you initially decide that the brakes were pulsating and it wasn't out-of-round drums? Mine is doing a thing that sounds like it might be same issue. I've done the same things you described here. I even disabled the ABS temporarily by removing its fuse, no different.

Easy to eliminate the ABS on RABS only trucks, bypass the valve with a union and remove the ABS light from the gauge cluster. Much more complicated on a truck that has full front and rear ABS.

You guys should be looking at your front brakes and wheel bearings though. If any of that is suspect or if there's ANY slop in the bearings, ball joints, tie rod ends etc you could get pulsating symptoms among other things.

If you can rule out damaged shoes, drums, springs etc in the rear then I would make sure your wheel cylinders are functional and that the brakes are adjusted properly.

My credo
the grey-t escape
my abs light has been on since ive had the 94, changing rear axle (with sensor) made no difference, back brakes work. I just taped over the dash light and havent worried about it since.
