Ranger Shadow Edition

Hello, I have been off of TRS for awhile and got your question about the Shadow Edition Ranger. The truck was sold to a fellow near Terre Haute, Indiana about three weeks ago, so you may see more of it around your area. I hated to see it go but it was time to let go and go a new direction. Also in response to Pearldrumbum's question about the gauge setup. I simply installed mini mecanical gauges where the old electrical gauges were in the left gauge pod..... they looked and worked great. If you guys have any other questions I would be happy to answer them.... Merry Christmas

My credo
Toonces drives a Ranger . . . . just not very well.
Congrats on selling the Shadow, and I hope you made out OK on it.

Those gauges you did really looked good. How did you do it? Did you gut the cluster's left side, and alter the original gauges' face panel; or did you remove the original left side entirely and fab a new panel?

Mechanical Gauge Installation

Congrats on selling the Shadow, and I hope you made out OK on it.

I removed the gauge cluster then pulled the left side. The fuel gauge was retained the other stock electrical gauges were removed. Then I placed the cluster panel flat on a old 2X12 and drilled the proper hole size for the mini mecanical gauges. Then before I installed the gauges I painted the cluster panel with a semigloss black paint, I left the fuel gauge opening and lettering origional. Once the cluster was reinstalled it looked like it was factory. Make sure you have the panel secure before you try to use the hole saw on it, I ruined one on my first attempt. Good Luck.......:icon_cheers:

Thank you. Very clear explanation, and you did a great job on it.

I usually don't like step/flaresides but you guys are right, that truck is nice.
Only a first gen. would ever look that good with that box. it adds to the squareness or edgyness.
awesome.

There is a black one of those that I've seen driving around here in central wv a few times. If I see it again I'll snap a picture of it.

That's interesting. Makes me think the bed is made of something other than steel, since there is rust on the front wheel-wells, but the rears look pristine. I like the flareside look on a Gen I Ranger!
