Yes it is time to build Ranger no 2. My 2004 Super Cab 4.0l broke a timing tensioner. Right hand side valves ruined.

I have decided to fit a mildly tuned 351w and a Borg Warner T5 to get the advantage of an overdrive. Also got a C6 with NP 208 but is afraid of revs running to high in top with the 4.0 diff ratio.

Will keep you posted.

After many up and downs I decided to run a 302.
Had a block .040 over bored with a set of Keith Black pistons. Topped of with AFR heads and roller cam
Gearbox Borg Warner T5 to BW 1354 T-case. Finding gearboxes to handle v8 power is quite difficult over here.

What do you guys think of this set up??

Freshly bored block with KB and BW T5

As I have my 347 SFA with 35`s this is going to be a daily driver not running bigger than 32`s. Aiming for around 300hp. Keeping the 8.8 rear and having plans to in stall a IFS Dana 44.

I'm thinking that a lot over here would love to know where you got that adapter to go from the T-5 to the x-fer case. Sure doesn't look like any T-5 I've seen around here, no shift tower and even the x-fer case looks different, looks like the adapter built into the x-fer case.

Dave the T5 is a Mustang box the extention is from a Ssangyong they also uses a BW T-Case. It fits straight onto the Rangers T-case. The shifter have to be changed to Mustang. Hope this setup will be up to the job.

Mustang.???

From what you have listed, kind of hard to guess but the ratings of the Mustang gear boxes varies a lot, from 265 lb/ft to over 300. Those trans can take a lot on the strip. Depends on what cam and induction, what power level you planning on running.

0.040 is a LOT of bore, you may have cooling issues, so plan for a big aluminum rad with some hi flo fans...

Thanks will keep that in mind. The .040 overbore is my concern too.

We had to bore my 347 .40 over (bad scratch in one cylinder) and I dont have any cooling issues (69 block with 68 heads). I use a older DUFF radiator in mine. I do run a 210 thermostat though, sometimes it doesnt want to warm up. Stock belt driven mechanical fan. Most times it rides just a little over the C on the factory gauge. Just my experience.

This baby is slowly moving forward.

Keith Black pistons and Eagle rods to floating pin done.
Crank and rotating assy balanced.
Now to have this little 302 installed in the right place:icon_welder:

The crank was crying teardrops just had to do it.
