I dont see a reason why you'd need a new cross-shaft when setting that up.
I've never heard any horror stories about the stock one busting.
Probably more likely to chip pinion teeth first :)

Just don't run a notched crossshaft with a lunchbox locker.

An aftermarket shaft is a waste of money for an 8.8.

in the 8.8 with 4.56's an up, how you guys get the shaft out if its not notched? wiggle it past the ring gear?

Just curious.

Grind the inner edge of the ring gear down a tad with a dremel... Sounds bad, but it's a perfectly acceptable practice in the 4x4 world. I did it on my 7.5. A lunchbox locker simply will not work unless you can completely remove the crosspin (at least on mine) because it blocks the spacers from moving inwards thus preventing c clip installation.

Very good question. You carefully grind a small amount off the tooth that's blocking the cross shaft hole. It only takes a small amount of the gear ground down, and the pinion never contacts that area of the gear.

This saves you the trouble of buying or trying to cut down a notched shaft, which is also much weaker than a solid shaft and can fail when under lunchbox locker power.
