So I bought an 88 ranger 4x4, but, among other things, the speedometer was not working. Now, after a few hours of tinkering, I find that the speedo cable is an inch or two too short to fit into the part of the nylon gear that it's supposed to fit in to. Honestly I'm stumped, according to the last owner it worked up until a few weeks ago, but it's not like the cable just shrank.
Any ideas?

I got what you mean man, or at least I'm pretty sure.
But I don't mean the rubber casing, i mean the metal wire that gets spun from the gear in the transmission, and the wire that is directly connected to the speedometer. Ya know?
