You just need to swap the tail housings and the tail shaft. If you're comfortable disassembling the entire trans to swap the tail shaft, then yes you can use a 2wd trans.

yeah as exbass suggested, "swapping the tailshaft" isn't as easy as it sounds. It is quite literally an entire disassembly of the transmission, since the "tailshaft" just happens to carry half the gears and all the synchros and rings for 1-4th gears.

You mean extension housing and mainshaft. Two abilities are needed to perform such a task. The first is the ability to take something apart meticulously and put it back together again in reverse order. The second is the ability to search this forum and technical library to come up with the necessary information which may be required to help you through it.

You could always run a divorced transfer case.

Building another shaft, building another crossmember, building a front drive shaft, shortening the rear.

BUT, it does lead for great drive shaft angles, (never seen it done on a TTB though) allows you to run any t case that came divorced.

Just an option.

Okay cool thanks.....I can take it apart in school in my shop (Baran Institute) I go to school to work on cars for a living.....:D
so it should be a great learning tool for me.....and by the time we get into the "Manual Transmissions" block Ill have my "new" tranny by then....:yahoo:

just as long as I dont run into any "hiccups" along the way....it should be fine right???
