My 92 Ranger 4L 4X4 has a serious starting and idle problem. It is very hard to start and when it does start it runs very rough , smells like it is running rich and stalls. Once in a while the engine light goes out and it will idle right. When it is running rough if I give it gas it will either stall or rev no higher than 3000 RPM. I put a new coil pack on it as well as new wires, plugs, MAF sensor , crank sensor, TPS sensor, fuel filter, fuel pump and checked all grounds and wire connections also I checked the input and output voltages on the MAF sensor and all are well within the voltage range. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks,

Robert

have you pulled codes to see why the Mil light is on? It would lead to what is causing the issues.

can't pull codes. Diagnostic connecter was cut off before I bought it.Don't know why but it didn't hurt the operation of the ranger. But now that it is not running right I can't trouble shoot it by way of scan tools.

I would suggest getting a wiring diagram for the truck and track down which wires are for diagnostics. Get hooked to them and get some codes. It will make life so much easier and would cost alot less time and money then just throwing random parts are the truck.
