SOLVED!

I replaced the entire ignition systems again, coils, spark plugs, wires. I replaced the IAC and went back to the OE after a good cleaning with cotton swabs and contact cleaner. Replaced two MAF sensors, before replacing the entire thing. Bingo! We have a steady, altho some what fluctuating idle, and no spark knock. I'm still down on power but I believe that's is still to do with a partially plugged catalytic converter. I will be doing a full exhaust sometime this year. I've since bought a GMC C5500 and that is getting my attention now.

I dislike having to shogun parts to solve a problem .

My CEL came on last week, I'll have to see if my scanner works .

If you read back through my thread, you'll see I fixed the codes, but still had a spark knock issue and no codes. I bought a scan tool that could read sensor data and it still showed nothing wrong. Evey thing was in spec when I researched it. The MAF readings were a little off but still close enough to not throw a code.

Oh, yes, i did read .

I have a borrowed code reader and plan to use it as soon as I get the time .

My truck just flew through the emissions test so I'm betting the E.G.R. valve is dirty and I also want to replace the N02 sensor as Ford says they age out .

Thanx, I hope so .

The deal is this : I'm a Geezer and can easily fix older things but computers are a first water mystery to me .

My friend loaned (perhaps gave) me a code reader, now I have to teach my self how to use it and look at all the different pages of information it can show .

I watched a guy rapidly flick through this on my truck but he's a cranky kid (my 48 Y.O. Son ) who thinks taking the time to teach me as I did for him when he was coming up, is too much bother .

We'll see, 99% of the time I just go over the basics and everything works out .

At 20 years old no one wants to touch it and it's pristine, only 140,000 miles, the Mid West and Salt Belt guys all want to buy it, no rust, never crashed, blah blah blah .

I'm an old man now and hope this will be my last truck .
