New member here and thought I would post up my work in progress.
My FIL gifted us this 2004 Ranger a few weeks ago and I have been getting it cleaned up and have done some basic maintenance on it. I changed the oil and added full synthetic oil, filter, air filter, cleaned the MAF sensor, ran a bottle of Techtron fuel system cleaner through it and bought a new spare tire as it still had the 18 yr old factory spare. Recently found an exact fit Leer 100r topper which I am having painted to match Sonic Blue on Nov 8. I had the top of the front bumper repainted as well. I installed new all aluminum black running boards recently. It runs good and we plan to keep it in the family, we still have the original window sticker. My FIL kept good accurate records. I checked highway mpgs and average around 17.6 mpgs.
A few photos -
In this photo the topper has the rack on. I since removed the roof rack as the topper is going to be painted to match. Also removed the LEER topper decals and bought new for after paint. I may or may not reinstall the rack when I get the topper back from the paint shop.

Removed the old Edge decals recently and installed new OEM Edge decals today. Tuesday the Leer topper goes into the paint shop.

Dropped off the camper shell yesterday at the Ford body shop for a coat of Sonic Blue metallic yesterday. The shop says it should be ready the first of next week.
This morning I removed the 18 yr old OEM EGR and replaced it with a new one. My local NAPA actual had one in stock.
This video made easy work of it. The new EGR and Techtron fuel treatment really smoothed out the idle.
She purrs now.

She is topless until next week with new EDGE decals.

Got the LEER 100R topper back today and installed by the paint shop. I think it looks much better painted with Sonic Blue. I am impressed with the great job they did as this topper needed a lot of work. I decided not to reinstall the roof rack and run a slick top.

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
My 2004 Edge Supercab Flareside didn't look much better when it was new in 04. Mine was gray metallic and I thought the orange Edge decals looked dopey so my friend in the body shop peeled them off before I drove it home. Nice looking truck. I'd suggest changing the transfer case fluid, too, if you haven't already, with Mercon/Dexron III.

Why should I pay someone else to screw it up when I can screw it up myself for free?
Very nice job with the topper color match. I've been looking for a good used one that I can spray myself. Gotta love Sonic Blue

Hey Thanks CrabGuy, much appreciated. The toppers are really hard to find in decent shape. The Leer 100R a friend of mine found on CL. It had only been posted 4 days before I scooped it up. It needed a fair amount of work to bring it back to life. Overall very pleased with the final outcome. Yes, gotta love the Sonic Blue.
Nice looking Sonic Blue you have there!

Another pic late afternoon. The Sonic Blue just gets a tad darker looking later in the day with the sun going down.
