I know this is a silly question and that the engines would cost way too much to try it - and would probably shred the transmission of a Ranger -
But I have to ask! Never know if someone's crazy enough to do it.

Is anyone going to try to get one of the new Ford V-6 engines into their Ranger? That 3.7 is amazing, 95 more HP and 40 more lb-ft than the 4.0 in the Ranger... Why Ford doesn't keep the current generation Ranger and stick that engine in it... that would be one heck of a little truck!

The 3.5 would be interesting, but I think the 3.5 out of the Taurus would be a better match for the Ranger since it's torque limited. The F-150 edition of the 3.5 has 90 more lb-ft of torque, and was breaking differential and axle components on the Job 1 F-150's this model year, which is why you couldn't get a 3.5 in the F-150 until January when they put the stronger axles in them.

Considering what the 5,000+ pound F-150 can do with these engines, it would be very interesting to see what they could do in the Ranger.

Been thinking about the 3.5L and the 6 speed trans since I saw the development articles. Still haven't found one locally I could get my hands on.

Surely they were not stupid enough to try to run 8.8's with the Ecoboost :icon_confused:

I can't see the 9.75 having too much trouble with them, but I guess they could have went 7 lug 10.25 but that seems a bit much, I am going to have to check into that now....

Ranger trannys won't bolt to them and it is just as well, they are barely adaquate for the 200hp 4.0.

In the V8 swap forum is a Ranger with the new 5.0 in it, now that would be fun... :3gears:
