Engine suddenly started to run roughly. My timing light indicated no advance as the engine was revved,

Two digit codes and explanations from Ranger Station page with KOEO as follows:

14 --Ignition pickup erratic

18 Ignition tach signal erratic

88 Ignition---IDM, DPI or spout circuit fault

If you've worked through a similar problem, please share your experience.

Methinks the problem lies in the crank sensor circuit or in the ignition module circuit. I don't want to start "throwing parts at the problem". And so would like to eliminate the problem's source as being elsewhere.

Comments welcome ---HELP!

I have seen coil packs contribute to this problem.

Yeas John, I actually wrote it. I thought to cross-post the message on this forum and the general forum.

I solved the problem by replacing the ignition module. The use of my timing-light indicated that there was no advance when the engine when revved. And so based on this evidence and the trouble-codes , I went ahead and replaced the module. The truck runs fine now. The "old" module lasted for about 100K miles.
