motor swap info

i got an 87 ranger w/the 2.0L motor w/the 5speed trans & it has no power.what motor can i put in it that would be easy & not have to mod. a bunch of things?ty

well if you live in a state which you dont have to worry about emissions testing,i would go for a early 80s mustang 5.0,T-5 tranny combo,there carborated,advance adapters makes a kitto make a nearly bolt in,you will at the least have to notch your heater box and probably something else im forgetting.

yea i hav 2 do emissions every yr it sux.i thot about doing that but i dont think i want 2 do a 5.0 right now

newer 4.0 v-6,its a bolt in,just gotta deal with wiring,injected fuel.

Easy is a relative term - I am planning to LONGBLOCK my 86 4x4 -use a '98 2.5L I4 with the small chamber head and a slightly hotter cam and a header. my goal is 120hp/150tq. engine swaps are MAJOR deals (I have been involved with 3 -350 chev into 4cyl wrangler-350 chev into s10-347 stroker into 4cyl stang) and I work in a 9 bay shop with 2 ase master techs! if the 2.5 swap is NOT sexy enough for you and you have little help and/or experience look into getting a 4.0l 5speed ranger
