Motor mounts: L-hand not available?

Motor mounts on my ranger are pretty shot. Based on a little bit of digging, It appears to me:

1. 2.8L has different mounts than the later 2.9 and 4.0 engines
2. 1983/84 have a different frame crossmember than 1985
3. 4WD and 2WD have different mounts (because of different crossmembers again?)
4. no-one has the drivers-side (left) engine mount in stock for the 4wd 2.8L. Some places won't let you order them. Summit racing offers to at least special-order them (have not tried yet).

Up next is a call to my local parts store (AutoPlus vendor), but does anyone know what's up here? Can you use a later mount with modifications of the cross-member or mount plate? Has anyone come up with a polyurethane mount?

You have some bad info. Here are the parts listings for 2.8s. The base part number is 6038.
