There are also plenty of motors which do not respond to upgrades. Thanks for noticing.
There is that too. Usually engines below a certain compression level, 9.3 or there about if I remember correctly.

I have no compression tester so have no idea what mine may be, but after near 400K it can't be that strong. I keep driving it due to needs and hoping for the best but know there may well come a time I punch the gas and it backfires and blows a rod. That happened in my first 300 in the 73 Econoline. Thankfully I had a spare already waiting in the wings.

I stopped in the local no achoholic beverages in the gas island and got $20 on my way to town and used that most of the day

400K? Amazing!

My credo
"220, 221, whatever it takes."
I’ve also seen some, not common, with five. The fifth offering is E15. Along with the three gasoline grades and diesel. I forget what the octane rating was. It was a weird number and the nozzle and panel color was blue. The first time I saw it, the brain took a few seconds to process what it was.
I run E15 all the time when I can get it.
Owner's manual for my 2020 says 87 minimum but to use 91 for "best performance", when towing, or in extremely hot weather.
I ran three tanks of each in a row when I first got it. MPG with 89 was about 1.5 mpg better than 87 so the extra cost is a wash. I get gas at Sheetz which has 93 not 91 but I saw no difference in mpg over 89 although the butt dyno thinks it runs a little smoother.
Most Sheetz stores have E15 88, the blue handle, mpg for me is the same as 89 and it costs on average 30 cents less than 87 so I use that if they have it, if not then I get 89.

I've run 2 tanks of 87 and noticed improved performance. I just filled a third tank with 91. This time, however, I did not feel the performance was improved.

I tend to think that there is a maximum that the computer will adjust the timing etc. and it's reached with 89.

To me, 91 seemed to be the sweet spot for the 2011. I'd have to take your word on the new Ranger. Until the clown car gets fully road worthy, I cant play with it much.
