I've read a few people lately myself included who have 2wd spindles that are worn. I've read of guys who restore vintage cars using loctite retaining compound to fill the gap on a spindle if it's not too worn. Has anyone here tried this? I want to give it a shot before buying a new spindle and see how it works. Loctite 660 is what I think I'll use.

I think he's trying to lock a wheel bearing onto the spindle.

I've never done it... but I've heard of people doing it. I've also ran across a couple spindles where someone had taken a center punch and put a couple dimples on a bearing surface to displace a bit of metal to hold a bearing.

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
Once you Locktite it in place, how do you remove the bearings to repack them or replace the rotor? If a new spindle is impossible to find, I'd have a machine shop turn the bearing surface down and slide a speedi-sleeve on it.

I used Locktite to fill in the side of a keyway that blew out on a crankshaft. It held up fine.

If the wear is within .001", high strength retaining compound will work.

Heat will break the bond. But to replace or repair is the best option. I just machined and sleeved a spindle a couple weeks ago.

no the spindle where the inner bearing rides. it spun at some point slightly wearing it, not much but enough that it has some slop

Where the inner bearing runs was slightly galled so I smoothed it out. Bearing slips on well and it seems to measure the same diameter as the other side. I can't fit even my smallest feeler gauge between bearing and spindle. I thought maybe loctite would make it just tad more snug

I've reused worse looking spindles than that with no problem. You should polish up the seal surface before reassembling it, though.

Use 240 or so for a while first, it's a ways from 800 now.
