Hi All --- I noticed some interior noise on my 2006 Ford Ranger Supercab 4x4 Automatic that I can't seem to figure out where it's exactly coming from and how to fix it. It sounds almost like an air leak but it may be better described as the noise you might hear when the volume on a speaker is turned up really high but no music is playing. I've also noticed that the noise is the loudest when the gas pedal is disengaged and either goes away entirely or is severely reduced when the gas pedal is engaged. The funny thing is that it usually occurs about 10 minutes or so after the engine has been running but sometimes the noise will not appear at all. The noise seems to be coming from the driver's side by where your left foot would be but it's a little hard to say for sure. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this and how to fix it?

I read on another forum that the noise you describe may be coming from the cruise control cable where it comes inside the cab. Mine is making the same noise and I'm waiting til spring to fix it since a couple local dealerships claim to have fixed it already but haven't...

Thanks for the info Briggslite. I took the truck to the dealer and had them look at it. I told them about what you said about the cruise control cable. After checking it out, they said it was coming from the accelerator cable and claimed it was now fixed. But, the noise is still apparent. This is getting annoying. Any other suggestions out there on what this is and how to fix it?

Sounds like a vacuum leak of some sort if it's less when you're on the gas.
If the dealer can't find it, it's possible you may have to pull over the next time you hear it and stick your head under there and try to locate it yourself (maybe a leak in the brake booster assy).
