While out for a walk in our neighbourhood park a coupla weeks back - all while Tesla was rolling out the first Cybertrucks to their excited new owners - I had reason to take a quick break. While standing there in sweet relief, I got to pondering the styling of the Cybertruck. A Ford Ranger it is not. The angles are unique, not truck-like at all. Say and believe what you like about young Elon, he does confuse at times with his whimsy and inexplicable behaviour, while also appearing brilliant, at least in short bursts.

Then it dawned on me! He too was just taking a break.

A former colleague of mine has one on order. I will prolly get to drive it one day. I promise a full report, while stopping for a break.

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
Just wait until they use one in place of a DeLorean in a Back to the Future remake.

There was another thread where someone mentioned how large this thing was.

Originally I was expecting a midsize truck with a fairly light payload. Assuming that would be target market.

It's actually a 3/4Ton. GVWR is 8,834 lb on the 2WD version and 9,169 lb on the AWD version. (I assume to compensate for the extra weight of the motors.)

Payload varies from 2000lbs to 2500lbs depending on the options.

interesting.

Wouldn't that make it a 1 ton?

You would think, but the payloads are all over the place on new stuff. I think you can get an F150 with a payload over 3000lbs. I was going off GVWR.

I think most 3/4 tons have a GVWR in the 8000s.

In Pa it would actually be classified as a Class 3 or 4a.

My F250 is a class 4a. (9000 to 10000lbs GVWR)

The only cool looking Cybertruck I've seen is the one that Dave Sparks (Diesel Brothers) has.

I know that the Cybertruck is goofy looking, but so is the electric F-150. The F-150 has a 'frunk' because they took a no longer needed engine compartment and turned it into a trunk. We've been conditioned to expect to see the hood on the front of a trunk. Truck bodies are designed around a solid frame with an engine in the front. Manufacturers change up the bodylines to keep consumers interested while trying to have some effect on fuel economy.

The Cybertruck is weird because it doesn't really have much body styling. It's definitely a canvas that will require a unique artist to appreciate it.

The Cybertruck is the Delorean of the truck world.

delorean-2.JPG

But even a Delorean can be a cool vehicle in the hands of the right artist.

I saw one on I 65 a week or so ago. See my truck spotters post thread in general section

It is big. I was thinking it would be Ranger if i ever go fullsized or even Maverick sized. It is much bigger, F250 is pretty accurate for size comparison.

If I ever go full stupid and drop 100k on an EV truck it will be a Rivian R1T. It looks like ass too, but it is a curvy ass and not the abortion of time and space that the Cybertruck

Yep- here in NC some newer f150's require a "weighted" license plate, as anything over 7,000 pounds needs one. It used to only be seen on box trucks and 250 and up series trucks, but now even the "small" stuff has it.
