My truck has been running terrible for a couple weeks. It felt like the fuel pump was cutting out. I decided to change the fuel filter and see if it helped. When I took it out, it rattled like a spray can. The filter media was just bouncing around inside the filter.

It was a Fram by the way.

:icon_rofl:

You mean these specialized tools? The ones I bought for 5 dollars ten years ago?

I had a receipt from the PO from 2009 and 15,000 miles ago. What I also took into consideration is that a Fram Filter also said Made in China on it.

i dont realy like those. i use the scissor looking ones
I read about those scissor tools in the tech library. The article says to "avoid" the plastic ones, so I called around on the scissor tool. The only place I could find them was Napa for 27 dollars because it comes with some other tool. I figured I already had these plastic tools, so I gave them a shot and they worked fine. The whole job took 15 minutes.

where on earth do you live?? Autozone has the metal scissor disconnect tool for Fords for like $10, they also have the a/c disconnect tool in a scissor format and a collection of the anodized aluminum ones.

AZ didn't have the scissor tool in stock, just Napa. I didn't need it anyway. I don't understand the dislike for the plastic tools, they worked fine. Like I say, the whole process took me 15 minutes. I've used these plastic things a few times on my Mustang and my brothers Explorer as well with no issues.

Also, to kill the fuel pump I pulled the relay instead of messing with the inertia switch.

EDIT: This is what Napa said they had:

:annoyed:

Purolator went to chinese crap fairly recently too.

Have you had any luck finding USA-made ones to replace it?

No, unfortunately all 3 brands Autozone had were made in China. I always thought Fram was an American company. This one will be a temporary fix until I find a US Made filter.

I know the Motorcraft FL1A oil filter says Made in USA on it. So the dealer might be what I need to do.

Sometimes those "scissor" style quick disconnect tools just get in the way of other stuff, preventing getting it disconnected, but do work well. I have another set of singles that are aluminum, but either way, those plastic ones look like they could come in handy.
