Wwwwwaaaa???

Ranger engines are you looking for?

Like, only 1st gen ranger engines? The biggest is the 2.9

In second generation it's the 4.0.

If you're talking about any bigger engine in general, check craigslist, you'll find plenty of bigger ford engines.

If you still don't find anything, I'll sell ya an efi 351 if you come pick it up.

If you just want basic information on an engine swap, check the tech library.

A 2.9 doesnt have enough ass to it to call it an upgrade plus you still have the nightmare of wiring for going to an EFI system from a carb. If your wanting more ass, go for the 4.0.

Whats the reason for wanting a bigger engine anyways?

I can't remember bout the 2.8 tranny, but on my buddies 2.9 to 4.0 swap we ditched the old tranny (fm146 or watev) in favor of the m50d (stronger) mainly because of the goofy backwards starter set-up didn't really want to work for us.

Dunno what the other guys have done.

The wiring is kinda a pain, we ended up (well, still in process) using a complete donor explorer and two explorer wiring harnesses.

Get a thicker radiator, one built for a/c trucks. 2.9 are very sensitive to over heating, they are worse then the 2.8's. There is a mod that can be done tto the heads to help keep them cooler, the write-up is in the tech library.
