Hello all, i have a 79 D44 solid axel under my bronco2/ranger, i have had it there for 5 years with no issues, truck sat since winter and took it out onto the hwy and has a really bad death wobble!!! took it hope, check everything and the ball joints were shot, put new ones in and its still there!!!

I did not have this issue last time i had it out, running 36 tsl, new brakes, rotors are new, new wheel bearing.

I have checked the tie rods and they look alright, the one on the pitmin arm looks a tid bit loose so i am going to change that tomorrow

any other ideas!!! need the truck for a wheeling trip sunday!!

thanks
Kris

Must be contagious...mines shaking like a dog crappin razor blades too. Seems to settle in ok at 95km/h so that's where I'm setting the cruise. After this weekend the truck is going in the shop and the I'm starting on swapping in the 1 tons...

Hope you get yours figured out Kris!

Is it just felt in the steering wheel? All speeds or gets worse as you go faster?

Tried rotating your tires? Maybe you've got a swamper that has gone out of round on ya. I'm kinda figuring that's what my issue is.

What are you getting DW on? Your TTB Ranger?

OP, I have found any loose TRE, or low caster, or over inflated tires, un-balanced tires, or tires that have flat spots from sitting long periods of time, or shot steering stabilizers all can contribute to death wobble. Basically everything has to be checked lol

I posted this in my build thread on how I figured out what was causing mine...

Jack up the front of you truck and get the tires off the ground and put the axle on jack stands then take your front wheels and try to move them side to side with your hands, did that to mine and found what my problem was, which was my trackbar not being tight enough to the frame mount. If you find nothing, then its something that is flexing really baddly that only the force of the truck can do. Check your castor angle too, you may not have enough. I have heard of a guy that was off by 1.5 degrees on his jeep and it was causing a DW. Just be sure to check EVERYTHING that touches the front axle and that holds it on. I have also heard that bad side walls on tires can cause this too.

DW is the scariest shit to happen while driving and what is worse when you go to slam on the brakes to stop and somebody is right on your ass and almost rear ends you. Mine was so bad that I would go over the slightest bump/depression in the road and it would do it. Generally happens when the passenger side tire hits a bump first, why Im not sure.

Hope this helps you out.

Yea, my 91. Everything in that front end is getting very tired, it's been beat on for 7 years now without complaint so I can't really bitch. It needs all new bushing, front springs and an alignment again. The bias tires don't help the issue either. Mine really isn't death wobble that starts from hitting a bump, just a shake that gets worse with speed. Seems to come and go.

DW is scary!!! scared the $hit out of a buddy who was with me when it happened!!! i know the castor is fine as i have been running the same set up for 5 years now and it was fine last year....going to try the tire rotation to see if that helps at all!

Have somebody in the truck turning the wheel side to side while you are under it looking for stuff that is moving when it souldnt be.

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
dw is complicated.
