Alritey, my other vehicle, 05 Explorer, I'm trying to figure this out. I know there is a way to do it but still looking on how. When the rear hatch is open I do not want the dome lights to turn on. Reason is, I took it to the drive-in and the thing is like an instant bug light. Any ideas?

you could probably pull it apart and unplug it. I did it on my explorers driver door cause the spring broke in the latch and it was always on.

Yeah the harness is probably the best idea, there is no exposed little button switch to glue are tape down. I'd have to take like 6 bulbs out inside and two on the mirrors if that were the case. I'll figure it out this week, I was hoping somebody had run into this problem by any chance.

Likely a ball bearing switch inside the hatch somewhere. You need to find it and unplug the switch.

I put a switch on mine and can turn them on and off. I put a small push button switch in the back overhead light cover.

If you'd like to keep the functionality of the light in other situations, you can always put a rated switch in-line with the light. You can run wires from the power to a spot in the back that you want to mount the switch. Then you can turn it on and off.

Not being 100% familiar with the '05 Model Year, I can only tell you what I'm familiar with (my wife had a '94 Explorer). A decent place to mount the switch on that truck would have been behind the access panel for the jack and rear wiper fluid bottle.

Yeah I was thinking of putting a switch in the harness somewhere to be able to allow the lights to turn on and off. I only go to the drive-in every few weeks, I'll just have to look around for the door switch and unplug it before I go.

Or, if it's only a rare thing . . . pull the fuse. Pretty easy, and easily reversible.

Good call, I always look for the long, hard, perminant solution for a temporary problem that's why I figured I would post it here. Thanks.
