sorry I can't help....even after doing a sender swap on my '89 ranger a few days ago...maybe the tech-help at Classic Instruments.com would know what sender you need....

The closest Ranger EVTM that I own is 1992. FWIW, the 92 book says the the fuel gauge sender is 145 ohms full, 22.5 ohms empty.

The 89 Ranger EVTM says the opposite (higher fuel level = lower resistance and vice versa) but it doesn't give actual resistance values for the sender.

thanks for the info...now I know why I had to flip the sender to get the dash gauge to read normally (except for the 1/4 tank/empty problem/50 ohms difference btween the OEM sender & the aftermarket dash gauge)

Strange, looking at my '89' wiring on page 78 it gives gage to read full at 145.19, empty at 22.5. The sender says 154-162 at full and 9-18 at empty.

i checked classicinstruments.com they are closed for the weekend but there is a trouble shooting section, they claim ford before '86 is 10/75 ford after '86 is 16/158. but on the other hand it wasnt too spelled out not sure if it was for dodge but they say on the side of the gauge its self it might have a sticker that indicates ohm range if not specified its 240/33... that just dont sound right at all. im goin to shop today and rippin my dash out (which i really hate doing) to get the scoop this gauge thing is officially holding my build up! Now also a lil usefull info (not sure on being correct) they said on 0-30, 0-90, and 16-158 if it reads full which is my problem there is a bad ground on the guage. And 75-10 and 240-33 if reads empty they have a bad ground. Igotta figure this out i cant even make it to the beer distributor w/ a marine tank lol

got a fix for all the guessing but any one ever do it before? summit got a fuel level sender for bout 30 bucks its 240-33/full its adjustable from 6-23 inches deep right or left mount w/ a 180 degree sweep and found a gauge from the same company, VDO makes it. now i aint sure how big the top flange is or what seals and hardware comes w/ it but any one aver manage to pull this off w/o leaks? My tank is the plastic kind so i could cut in it w/o sparks or heat so i dont see a big drawn out process to fit it, unless anyone thought of other detours i could hit?

Haha, I didn't see that. On page 77 of the same EVTM, it seems to say the opposite, assuming that the units given are ohms:
"The sender is a variable resistor connected to a float in the fuel tank. When the fuel is low, resistance is high; when fuel is high, resistance is low."

LOL....

That's probably why I pulled the OEM tank unit out and moved the float up/down slowly by hand to see what the aftermarket dash gauge did...that's when I found I needed a separate ground wire to the dash gauge....

then the dash gauge started working, but read the opposite of where I held the float....so I flipped the sender on the tank unit.
