i have a 95 2.3 5sp. lately while i am driving i will loose all power and the engine will start sputtering. even if i put it in nuetral it will continue to do it. the other day i was going about 20mph i put it in nuetral because i was coming up to a stop and out of nowhere it just shut off.
if anybody has an idea of what might be wrong please let me know.

ya know i don't even know what it could be...it's acting the same way it did when my catalytic converter's insides fell apart and was plugging my exhaust. i didn't replace my cat tho so it can't be the same thing again(i'd just gutted the insides out). Maybe its something on the opposite end...like the fuel pump's getting weak?

i thought i had it fixed when i saw that my air filter was black. i took it out and drove around for about 10 minutes and everything was fine. i got in it the next morning and it was back to the way it was.

i was talking to my dad about it earlier today and he seems to think it's the fuel filter... i'm gonna try that out tomorrow when i get off work and see how well that does.

if you have a MAF you should clean it. the oil from the k and n can mess with it..........same thing for the other poster if your air filter was black and you have a MAF it is probably dirty also.

you also can try disconnect the ect sensor and see if that changes anything.

and clean you iacv also

if your replaced the maf or cleaned it you should disconnect the battery for 15 minutes so the ecu can reboot....

i completely forgot i posted this. but i had the same thought about the fuel filter but that didnt fix it. then i realized it only happens in the morning when the engines cold so i replaced the cold idle selonoid but that didnt fix it either. i looked at the maf and it seems perfectly clean. ive ran out of ideas for now so im just dealing with it and putting the time i would spend fixing this into my project.

Put a tune up on it ( plugs and wires ) and check the basics.

Get a new PCV valve they are cheap it sounds like a blow by issue as far as the dirty filter. Check the compression and vacuum pressures and what do the plugs look like.
