I'm wanting to swap a Dana 30 into my 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4. What year of Dana 30 from a jeep would I need, preferably a high pinion? Pfa

My credo
get outta my way, I'm falling!
how much of your frame & cross member will you have to remove to fit a straight axle up there?

1990-1999 XJ fronts without the axle disconnect would probably be ideal. Make sure it has the big u joints

I put a 30 in my 92 2wd to do a 4x4 conversion. I got a hp30 from a 95 classic cherokee and it did not have the disconnect. I love it like crazy, but don't put alot of money into it. I did mine for under 1000 and it was harder than it seems to do that cheap. If you're going to spend more than that i'd say go with a 44 from an old highboy or something. They can be found without much trouble around here, and if you put more than 1000 into a d30, you could have way more axle for that same price if you found a 44 that already had the correct gears. Most jeeps I found had 3.07s.

3.07 in manual 4.0s
3.55 in auto 4.0s
3.73 in tow package 4.0s
4.10 in any 4cyl

Those are the general rules for Cherokee axle ratios

Yeah, if you look for a while, there are some with 3.73s or 4.10s......but at least in my area I only fouND one with 3.73s I think I found 2 with 3.55s and at least a dozen with 3.07s. But i'm in Ohio, so maybe it will be different for some of you other guys.

3.55 and 3.07 are the most common, depends on auto or manual trans. 4.10s get snapped up by Jeep guys who just need a little lower gear. 3.73s are just rare in general
