Been reading around some on the 4BT and it looks like the best option for me putting a diesel into my ranger. I am stationed in south dakota and need to keep the 4wd. The truck has around 5-6" of lift on it and a Dana 30 SAS done up front. The rear is 4-5" of real lift not running stacked blocks and its an 8.8 31spline with a torsen l/s and 4.10s. Also i already have the edge powerdome hood as its well an edge model.

Looking at a 4BT rotary pump, 6L80/90e (i want a 5-6 speed trans not the th400 3 speed), I have no idea what transfer case stock is the BW1354E could it handle the torque? heck could i reuse the 5R55 that my truck came stock with?

I have also read that people have reused the factory AC and radiator, but what about heat on them its kinda a must in SD...

also only looking for 200HP or so I really want the torque my 4.0 SOHC dies in the hills.

Im guessing that a D30 isnt gunna hold up long with the power from a 4bt, but keep us updated on the build. I have always wanted a 4bt

Hell the D35 TTB is barely marginal with D44 TTB knuckles under a ranger with a Cummins 4bt up front. That motor is enormously heavy.

I don't mean to rain on your parade but good luck with that D30 up front...:icon_thumby:

I have a sick mind, so if I ever get around to putting a 4bt in my Mazda, I'll do the D44TTb knuckle swap and call it a day. But I also have a light foot.

I also hear that becuase the 3.9L 4bt is basically a 5.9L 6bt, without 6 cylinders, alot of the aftermarket performance upgrades work on it too...So 200HP should be achievable, but I keep it modest since if your doing 200HP the torque out put is going to be insane...like close to if no over 400lb*ft. Which would destroy any remaining Ranger powertrain components......Build accordingly! Bone stock HP output is bewteen 120-150 horses and 300ft*lbs of torque.

Once you get the info you need, and the swap in progress post pics!

I was going to swap a dana 44 or possibly a cut down 50/60 in as well since I was eeing torque issues on the dana 30
