I have been looking all over at hardware stores locally and none carry HT grade 70/80 or 100 transport chain. They all have 30 grade or 43 and in 5/16 about 270 a foot. I was looking for 5/8 and it was over 3 bucks and I need 50 ft. Plus 3/8 would be heavy!

I went to the local hardware again and decided to bite the bullet. I ordered an entire pail of 5/16 HT transport. He was like ok that'll be 100 dollars. I was severely confused as the 30 grade chain was 130 for that amount. He said yeah, if you order it there is no stocking fee.

I'm just baffled. Shipping made ordering chain online not worth it but they can order you HT chain at a fraction of the cost the (in store) stuff sells to every single customer they have. Just seems like a huge rip off.

Just a heads up to any other chain-goers.

Kind of makes sense. On-line would be shipped where, to your home? Shipping to hardward store that is usually getting shipments in anyway and local pickup. I needed 28" of 3' X 1/2" flat stock and our purchasing agent said it would cost $23 but I could get the full 20 FT lenght for $13. Pays to shop around and get different options.

I'm going to the scrap yard this Saturday to buy a half ton or so of lead for body work and and ballast. Also some angle iron and I beams. It's a dollar a lb minimum for lead online. .55 a lb at yard.
