Looked up genuine Holley rebuild kits. Regular 4 bbl $40-$45. Spread bore $55. If you find good working carb cheap, it's definitely worth rebuilding instead of buying new one.

I agree with you guys. Everything cost like hell these days. But carbs are simple low tech devices. Oughta be way cheaper than computerized fuel injection.
Josh reminded me of three drawers fulla Holley carb parts and rebuilt kits I kept in garage back then. 😁
There is nothing simple about a Holley vac secondary carburetor.

Except the principle.

I would prefer it if we dealt in silver and gold. Money is a system based on debt and debt sucks

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?

Once you understand the principle Holley carbs are starightforward to work on and calibrate. Nothing is simple if you get into it deep enough- look up the factory valve adjustment procedure for a flathead as an example. If the valve lash is out of spec the first step is to pull the heads. Then to reduce lash you grind the valve seat, to increase it you grind the stem.

Holley is one of the easiest carbs to rebuild along with old Autolite 2 & 4 bbls.
If you want aggravating try Carter AFB or Rochester QuadraJet.

Me too. Rebuilt many of mine and friends carbs over the years. All I do now is fuel injection....

I haven’t rebuilt a carb in years, Back in 1990 I bought a ‘72 olds and rather than mess with the quadrajet I bought a new holley 600 & adapter plate from jegs, I dont recall the cost but I know it had to be quite reasonable for me to go that way instead of messing with the quadrajet.

That was smart move racsan.
Only rebuilt two QuadraJets and they were so aggravating I never tried to do anymore.

A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
I didn't know they were in demand, I have 4 or 5 2 BBL, a number of one BBL and 2 or 3 4 BBL
A guy that worked at the Ford house all his life also worked in his back yard all his life, there were at least a half a dozen sheds.

My mother called me once and asked if I had time to help one of her friends clean out some sheds ;)
Any good 2150 motorcraft cores?

In 89 I bought a 77 Delta 88 with a crudy vinyl top but a good Chevy 350, it was a 4 door, was a nice little car
