is it possible to swap a short bed ranger styleside to a flareside? is there any modification involved?

I think you have to do something with the gas tank hose?

^^yup. Shorten the fuel filler neck and the filler neck vent tube, other than that, it's a straight up bolt on deal.

What about the tailgate? i think they may be different width's

Yes, tailgates are different widths. The rear bumper should be a different width too.

yeah....you'll need a flareside tailgate and rear bumper. Both are alot narrower than a styleside, but I thought that was a given.

Something also to be noted, if you get a 00+ bed, you'll have to reuse your existing tailight harness if you keep your already there 3 bulb taillights.
