Basics of what’s going on: A wildfire started earlier this week. It was a couple hundred acres. Then a few more (like 6) started around the Panama City Area. The big one was contained at 75% and 500 acres a few days ago. Now is at 1400 acres and 30% contained. On top of that there’s a second massive wildfire nearby that’s 8000 acres and 10% contained. A big cause of this, I think, is all the downed trees from hurricane Michael.

Anyone here affected by the fire? Anyone have any firefighting experience that can shed light on what’s actually going on in the fighting efforts? Was this avoidable?

My credo
Crossed threads are tight threads.
The La Tuna Canyon fires of 2017 was literally my backyard. My house barely did not catch on fire, mostly due to the wind direction being in my favor. This caused major mudslides the following year. Now there are barely remnants, its amazing how fast nature recovers/ regrows.

Probably not easily avoidable...I looked up stats and apparently there's a fire here every 20-40 years. Natures cycle.

it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
They do alot of controlled burns in areas of the glades.

Been some time since I worked there.

Wow. I haven't even seen this on the News. I am in Leon County, but we usually here about PC, if it's major. My buddy is a Game Warden in Mexico Beach and he hasn't even mentioned it. Hope you are safe @Chapap.

I’m good as long as it doesn’t cross 231. Doesn’t look like that’s too likely. The fire close to town isn’t really getting bigger, but it’s only 20% contained. Not sure what that means.

The big fire (now 12,000 acres) is way out in undeveloped territory. Evac zones haven’t changed in a couple days. That can change quickly tho.

WUFT-3 (Florida Channel) was carrying updates as info became available. Might try checking in with that.

I think UFT comes out of Gainesville so may be different for your area.

I believe they now call them “prescribed burns”... its a more accurate description.

This fire (at least one of them) started out as some guy’s trash fire. Imagine burning some yard leaves and three days later, being responsible for a dozen homes destroyed, 20+ square miles of burning forest, and 15 fire agencies and the national guard mobilizing.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Blueberry fields get burnt somewhat frequently.

Chemically reclaiming a body of water is interesting as well.

Finally saw this on the news today. Hopefully some rainy weather will help out. Supposed to be a very wet weekend.
