To all the fathers or mothers.
I'm going to have my 2 month old in the truck this weekend. Not off road, just for a couple miles. But the question is, The front seat is the best place for her rear facing car seat right? I don't think it would be good with the car seat straped in the jump seat sidways. BTW there are no airbags in the truck.

Correct.

And those with PS airbags should shut them off.

As a retraints engineer (seat belts and airbags), I can tell you that putting your child in the jump seats is a bad idea. Without airbags in your truck, the front passenger seat is the safest place in your Ranger. Also, make sure that the child is facing the back of the truck if the child seat is cabable of facing backwards. I have a '93 Ext. Cab, and that's what I do with my boys (4 year old, 3 year old and 7 week old).

The child seat is designed to absorb the impact force in a fore/aft manner, and placing the child seat sideways will give you minimum protection in the event of a collision.

I know most kids lived to be adults even when carseats were not being mandated like today, but I'm still glad to see someone confirming any questions they might have about their childs safety. I see too many children put in harms way by parents or other adults by not strapping their kids in properly. It's expensive to have 3 kids properly (more like lawfully) restrained these days, but if you have to do it, might as well do it right.

I only have one option for my daughter, the pass. seat but yes I have had her in my Ranger. I've actually had people stop me at gas stations and yell at me about it and some are ignorant enough to yell at me about air bags. I don't have air bags. Suprisingly she loves the truck so I won't complain.

I remember riding in the back of a truck, just a carpet and a cap over the bed, at least six kids back there. Nowadays that would cause a parent to be jailed.

Carpet? You got it easy. My rides were usually acompanied by various power tools, hand tools, tool tools. But hey, I made it to college.
