After replacing the fuel pump on the Ranger the second time due to an oil leak, I decided that it was not my favorite past time. Autozone is real good at replacing them but not real good at offering to pay for the labor to install defective fuel pumps. Seems the replacement Airtex pump, part number 60331 has a metal plate that is stake to the fuel pump body. The Problem is the plate is steel, the body is aluminum, so we have 2 different expasion rates, then the stakes on that hold the plate are not very robust.
A quick fix, good old JB Weld. A liberal application and no more oil leaking out of the fuel pump. This thing was leaking bad enough to cover the tail gate and under carriage with oil after 300 mile road trip....
